“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,” (Eph 2:8 NKJV)
Why do we receive grace?
In Ephesians 2:8 the word "for" is Key in that text and the surrounding passage. Notice the context. Turn to chapter 2 in Ephesians. It says, "Even when we were dead in our sins have He quicken us together with Christ." This is the saving that 2:8 speaks. This is our salvation. We are saved, setting together in heavenly places in Christ. For this is the grace, the Gift from God. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works WHICH God had preordained THAT we should walk in that which is of God. Being quickened together with Christ sitting together in heavenly places in Christ we are Therefore, One Body and Spirit. And there is One hope of this calling of us. In that there is One God and Father of all who is above all and in us all chapter 4 states. For it is He that works in us both to will and do His good pleasure. Giving of Himself, giving gifts unto men. And this hopeful calling is For the perfecting of us, the saints. Unto the measure and stature and the fullness of Christ.
Henceforth not tossed to fro by every wind of doctrine and sleight of man. Being Taught by HIM and thereby Putting off the behavior of the old man which is corrupt due to deceitful lust and putting on the new which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. The good works that God had preordained that we should walk in. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them chapter 5 says.
