The law was given to expose our sin, to expose our need. To lead us to christ. As paul called it the schoolmaster.
It was not given to show us how to live, the jews thought this, and in their misunderstanding rejected Christ, because they were never really trained by the law.
The aw exposes our guilt
The law shows the solution (the temple and sacrifice of the innocent) (without the shedding ot blood, there could be no forgiveness)
God's way is the way to know Him and Jesus by being in His likeness through being a doer of His character traits, which is the way to eternal life (John 17:3). For example, in Genesis 18:19, God knew Abraham that he would teach his children and those of his household to walk in His way by being a doer of righteousness and justice that the Lord might bring to Him all that He has promised. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact likeness of His character (Hebrews 1:3), which he expressed through his works by setting a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in God's law, so the law leads us to to Christ because it is God's instructions for how to know him. Sin is what is contrary to God's way and sin is the transgression of God's law because it was given to teach us how to walk in God's way (1 Kings 2:1-3). For example, unrighteousness is sin because it is contrary to God's character and God's law can't just expose unrighteousness without also teaching us how to be a doer of righteousness by contrast. Forgiveness has always been through Christ.
The law says do not covet. Once a person covets as paul said they are exposed by the law as sinners
In Roman 7:25, Paul contrast the Law of God with the law of sin. The Law of God leads us to do what is godly, righteous, and good (Romans 7:12) while the law of sin leads us in the opposite direction by stirring up sinful passions in order to bear fruit unto death. The Law of God is not sinful, but is how we know what sin is (Romans 7:7), and when our sin is revealed, then it leads us to repent and causes sin to decrease, however, the law of sin is sinful and causes sin to increase (Romans 5:20).
What the law does not show. Is how to keep this command.
The law says, do not commit adultry, but as Jesus said, if you even look at a woman in lust (the law did not tell us this)
If we correctly understand what is being commanded against by the 7th and 10th Commandments against committing adultery and coveting in our hearts, then we won't look at a married woman with lust in our hearts, so Jesus was not teaching anything brand new.
I can’t remember, But I think it was paul who said we shoudl not put under burden our fellow believers a burden the fathers could not carry, no one could keep the law. So to fucus on the law would be to continually focusing on how sinful you are. And for many would lead to defeat.
You are referring to Acts 15:10. The Psalms express an extremely positive view of obeying God's law, such as with David repeatedly saying that he loved it and delighted in obeying it, so if we consider the Psalms to be Scripture and to therefore express a correct view of obeying it, then we will also delight in obeying it as Paul did (Romans 7:22), which is incompatible with viewing it as being a heavy burden that no one can bear. We should not interpret the authors of the NT as expressing views that are contrary to what they considered to be Scripture.
In Romans 10:5-8, Paul referred to Deuteronomy 30 as the word of faith that we proclaim in regard to proclaiming that God's law is not too difficult for us to keep and that keeping it brings life and a blessing while not keeping it brings death and a curse, so choose life! So you are denying what Paul said is the word of faith that we proclaim as well are denying the truth of God's word. Likewise, in 1 John 5:3, to love God is to keep His commandments, which are not burdensome, so you are denying that anyone has ever loved God and that His commandments are not burdensome. Moreover, there are many examples in the Bible of people who did keep God's law, such as those in Joshua 22:1-3, Luke 1:5-6, Revelation 14:12, and Revelation 22:14.
In Acts 15:11, Peter said that we are saved by grace, so the heavy burden that no one could be was not God's law, but a means of salvation that it an alternative to salvation by grace, namely salvation by circumcision that was proposed by the men from Judea in Acts 15:1.
Jesus said you want to keep the law. Then be ye perfect as your father in heaven is perfect.
He gave us a better way, One through Christ and one through paul
In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus was speaking about having a love that is full or complete where we don't just love those who love us, but also love our enemies, not about needing to be sinless. In Matthew 7:24, Jesus didn't end the Sermon on the Mount by saying that he was just kidding that we can't actually follow the way that he taught, but rather he said that everyone then who hears his words and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
The law of Love or the law of Grace as some call it. Jesus said this law contains all the law and prophets. It says to love the lord your God will all your heart mind and soul. And your neighbor (anyone). Do this, you will not break the law
Everything commanded it the Law of God is either in regard to how to love Him or our neighbor, which is why Jesus said in Matthew 22:36-40 that those are the greatest two commandments and that all of the other commandments hang on them, so the Law of God is the Law of Love and the position that we should obey the greatest two commandments is also the position that we should obey the commandments that hang on them. For example, someone would have an incomplete understanding of what is being commandment by the greatest two commandments if they fought that obeying them mean that they didn't need to obey God's commands against committing murder, adultery, theft, idolatry, rape, kidnapping, favoritism, and so forth for God's other commands. In Psalms 119:29, he wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him to obey His law, so the Law of God is also the Law of God.
I believe paul also said the law causes sin ti increase. And we have an example that shows this,
Tell a child he can not eat a cookie from the cookie jar. That cooked will be on the kids mind and he will be tempted.
Do not tell him anything, and he probably will nto even think of it.
Again, that is describing the influence of the law of sin.
Paul said seek after the things of the spirit and we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
Just like the law of love, if our focus is on serving and loving others. Our focus will not be on serving self. (We will be in the spirit not the flesh)
In Galatians 5:16-23, Paul contrasted the desires of the flesh with the desire of the Spirit and everything that he listed as works of the flesh that are against the Spirit are also against the Law of God while all of the fruits of the Spirit are in accordance with it. In Romans 8:4-7, Paul contrasted those who walk in the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to the Law of God.
