Welcome to "Messianic Believers"

I'm Rabbi Ben Avraham. This is a new Forum for me, although I send out the weekly Torah (Bible) portions to other Forums. In Judaism, The Bible (Torah, Prophets, and New Covenant) is divided up into 52 reading selections.

As Messianic believers, those of us who have trusted Messiah Yeshua (Jesus the Christ) as LORD and Savior/Redeemer
Also, read portions of the New Testament as well as the Prophets and Torah.

Now, for those who are tuning in for the first time, or some just out of curiosity, might want to know what "Torah" means
"Torah" means "instruction" 3500 years ago, starting with Moshe (Moses) the "Torah" started being written down, and now, 3500 years later, we have the "Complete Torah" which consists of 66 books. Yes, "Torah" = "Bible"

So, I contribute each week portions from the "Torah," Prophets" and "New Covenant" readings, called "Midrashim" (commentaries) We have all heard of "commentaries" like "Matthew Henry Commentary" and many more.

In Judaism (the root of Christianity), we have the "Talmud, " a commentary of about 14 study books over the Torah. Yet, the rabbi who I studied under back in Houston, Texas once said; "The Talmud" is like a bony fish, you need to pick out the bones, throw them away, and then eat the meat.

All commentaries are that! They are what the author is thinking when reading scripture. Yet if commentary does not line up with the written Truth, then, it is just one person's idea.

I try to write the "Parasha" (study section) using the basic knowledge of Hebrew and culture to convey the message that affects us all in these times.

I live in El Salvador and I am part of a local "Kehilah" (congregation) which is Messianic. I lived in Houston for 25 years, worked in the school district, and then, came down here to minister God's WORD, which is what I enjoy doing.

My wife is "Judith" (Y'hudit) which is the feminine counterpart of the word "Jewish" She is of Sephardic descent (Jews from Spain) I am of "Ashkenazi" ancestry, on dad's side (German and East European Jews) as well as some Lutheran ancestors and Turkish Armenian on mom's side.

I graduated "Shema Israel Yeshiva" in Miami FL in 2002, and was ordained Messianic Rabbi by Rabbi Manuel Goffman
(now retired)

So, I invite all to study the Torah with me every week. Shalom. We are now going into the Book of Exodus (in two weeks)

Shalom,

Does Messianic believers also believe in the Trinity and the Hypostatic Union?

Hello and Shalom Binyawmene. I have never heard of the word "Hypostatic" but YES, we believe in the Trinity. In Hebrew it is expressed in the name "Elohim" the "Plurality" of God, (Father, Son, and Spirit) (Av, Ben, Ruach HaKodesh) and in the word "Echad" (Unity of ONE)

Hypostatic Union is a doctrine that was coin by Cyril of Alexandria

For the Word of God, as we have said already, was made hypostatically one in flesh, yet he is God of all and he rules all; but he is not the slave of himself, nor his own Lord. (a snip from the letter of Cyril to Nestorius)

You can also read the whole letter in both Council of Ephesus and Chalcedon. This doctrine teaches God incarnate, that Jesus Christ is both God and man. The Word/Son, second person in the Trinity, who became flesh and have two natures. So, the phrase "one in the flesh" emphasizes that Jesus Christ, the Son, took on human nature and became incarnate. He became one with humanity by taking on a human body (flesh).

The Greek word "hypostasis" is also found in Hebrews 1:3.

Subsistence is Latin or substo, sub means "under" and sto means "to stand," while the same word has the same meaning in the Greek is a hypostasis, from huper which means "under" and histayme which means "to stand". In other words, both subsistence and hypostasis would be the underpinning, underlying, or foundation. And this gives the notion of "that which subsists in and by another or subsistence". It's the reality that lies underneath a substance that gives its existence. Therefore, a hypostatic "is the real underlying reality (or essential intrinsic inherent fundamental basis) of factual existence".

I would offer.

No division between the old and new both together as one living word. The law "Let there be" and the testimony "it was good "

Like most parables used to protect the integrity of the one author as and finisher

Moses signified as the law giver, (Old Testament). John the Baptist (the ne, passed down from Elias the power attributed to Elijah the power raising from the dead by power of the Holy Spirit

Matthew 17:3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

The old Testament with new. one testament .Believers are to hear Moses and Elias the same as hearing the living word of God

Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Matthew 11:13-15For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.;And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.;He that hath ears to hear, let him hear

Used that way in other parables also like the one in Luke 16 .The parable of "no man can serve two good teaching masters coming from one lord .

Using mammon, the riches of this world as the wisdom of this world, compared to (Moses) law and Elias prophets .(sola scriptura) all things written in Moses (Law) and Elijah (prophets)

The witness as two as if one

Used three times to denote the end of a matter

Luke 15:13-17No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him.And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God. The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.

Luke 16:29-32Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.(sola scriptura) And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
