Why was Lazarus named but not the rich man?

Is this a trivial pursuit question ?

Can I have a poll ?

:)

I think the question might be.....In parables those mentioned are not named. The widow, a certain man, the land owner.....why is Lazarus mentioned by name?
This could be the exception where both are true- its both a parable and a true story. As I always like to say there are exceptions to the rules. :)

Good point. 👍

Parables are based upon actual events or events that could actually happen.

.
While people are still alive and in ordinary darkness, God remains concerned for
their safety per John 3:14-17, but after they arrive in the fiery section of Hades
they no longer matter because at that point they're dead to God. They've crossed
over from ordinary darkness into a sphere of outer darkness.

Prov 10:7 . . The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked
will rot.

Could it just be this was a real event, Lazarus was a real person named and he saw and spoke with Abraham also a real person .What evidence is there that this is a parable? Many claim it is but I ask based on what? In many parables in the text we are told they are parables In this story of Lazaurus we are not told it is a parable and men are called by name. I am convicted this is not a parable.

Many who deny the existence of a real place of torment have to make this a parable just to support their doctrine.

I see no reason why it couldn't be a real person.

Luke 16:27-28 . . I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have
five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of
torment.

I sometimes wish there were tour buses to the afterlife so folks could see for
themselves just how bad things are down there over on the wrong side of that
chasm. But alas, God doesn't allow us to go there nor them to come here.

That poor man's predicament reminds me of the women and children in life boats
escaping the Titanic looking back at the sinking ship knowing their loved ones were
going to Davey Jones and there was not one single thing they could do to prevent
it.

Abraham's response is interesting.

Luke 16:29 . . Abraham said: Moses and the prophets have warned them. Your
brothers can read their writings anytime they want to.

Moses said this in Deuteronomy:

"Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them
out." (.27:26)

Daniel this in his book:

"Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting
life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (12:2)

And Isaiah this in his book.

"All humanity will come to worship me from week to week and from month to
month. And as they go out, they will see the dead bodies of those who have
rebelled against me. For the worms that devour them will never die, and the fire
that burns them will never go out. All who pass by will view them with utter
contempt." (66:23-24)

No its not! Now that is solved.

Could you explain why you believe what you stated as fact?

Can I assume you do not believe in a literal hell (place of torment)?
Gods justice makes it not a reality. But symbolism. God taught all perfect justice= An eye for an eye-perfect balance on his scales. So for 70-100 years of an unrepented life God could not or would not punish one for trillions x trillions x trillions, etc of never ending years of suffering for that. There is no balance in that. It was symbolism for the following--- As each new day dawns in Gods kingdom( eternal life) those not allowed in, miss each new day, miss each day of Gods love, it NEVER ends--likened to be an eternal suffering.
One single teaching proves the symbolism= The place where the worm( maggot) dieth not( Mark 9:48)--no worm or maggot could survive an hour in a hot firey place, let alone dieth not.
And God is LOVE--not the sadist presented by some religions teaching a literal eternal suffering.
