1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning
2 He was in the beginning with God
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Always been some of my favorite verses.
Years back, I became very interested in the word Logos and did a deep dive. Of course there is more to it, but my take away was that He is the Rational Reason for All Things.
It’s a mouthful when you think about it.
Anyway…a blessing for me.

Amen!

Jesus is the word of God....

Took me quite a while to work that one out.

Jesus spoke everything the Father asked him to speak out....in complete harmony with each other.

God the Father.

God the Son.

God the Holy Spirit....all 3 are one!

Isn’t it incredible how God made Adam from the dust of the ground, and his helper Eve, from his rib....mind Blowing!!!....

I see John to be using logos because it was the supreme being to the Greeks.

And having stated that Jesus is such is to state that Jesus is the supreme being, who is necessarily God.

Faith is a prerequisite of salvation. Knowledge is an aspect of faith.

... and this leads to the question: Can one be saved (have salvific faith) and not believe (not have knowledge) that Jesus is God?

I understand that. However, we don’t know if that is what John had in mind.
My deep dive into the meaning of the word many years ago, showed me He is the rational reason for all things.
Of course He is God come in the flesh.
You might be blessed and I hope you are when considering that phrase…the rational reason for all things.
God bless.

Did it include meaning the First Cause?

It was long ago and I do not recall. What I shared is what the Lord had/has for this particular son.

Great question brother.

If you have links to any ancient quotes to back that up, I would love to have it handy.

I do know that during the Babylonian exile the common language (lingua franca) was Aramaic and many of the Jewish writings of that time and beyond were in Aramaic.
Aramaic had replaced Hebrew as the language of the Jews as early as the 6th century BCE.
Certain portions of the Bible (i.e., the books of Daniel and Ezra) are written in Aramaic, as are the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmuds.

The Aramaic Bible used the Aramaic word Memra (Greek Logos) in such verses as:

Gen 1.1
From the beginning with wisdom the Memra of the Lord created and perfected the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 115:9–12
O Israel, trust in the Memra of the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
O you of the house of Aaron, trust in the Memra of the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
O you who fear the LORD, trust in the Memra of the LORD! He is their help and their shield.
The Memra of the LORD has remembered us; he will bless (us); he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron;
Psalm 118:6–14
The Memra of the LORD is for me as my help; I shall not fear. What can the son of man do to me?
The Memra of the LORD will help me, and I shall see retribution on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the Memra of the LORD than to trust in the son of man.
It is better to trust in the Memra of the LORD than to trust in princes.
All the peoples have surrounded me; in the name of the Memra of the LORD I trust that I shall uproot them.
They have surrounded me, yea they have surrounded me; in the name of the Memra of the LORD I trust that I shall uproot them.
They have surrounded me like bees; they blaze like fire among thorns; in the name of the Memra of the LORD I trust that I shall uproot them.
You pushed me hard, O my sin, that I might fall, but the Memra of the LORD helped me.
The LORD, my strength and my song, the terrible one over all the worlds, has spoken through his Memra, and has become my deliverer.

So all the people would have known that John was tying the term Logos to one of the divine persons of YHWH.
