I still haven't signed up on Tik Tok - still thinking about it. I have friends and family who send Tik Toks to me and I watch them, but can't respond since I have no account. I'm with you on the spying, Rella, and the spying is getting more concerning. Here's something that happened to me the other day that was downright creepy. I went to my jewelry box, looking for a specific pair of earrings I wanted to wear and noticed a ring I haven't worn in years - probably 10 years - and I picked it up and put it on. I kept trying to remember the designer name of the ring - didn't google, didn't do any online searches - nothing. About an hour later, I remembered the name of the designer - Lagos. Later in the afternoon, I signed into Facebook, and up popped an ad for Lagos jewelry. I can't even remember the last time I saw an online ad for Lagos - but there it was, after I had put on a Lagos ring. It's not a very common jewelry line - at all.
Whether I end up getting a Tik Tok account or not, I still don't trust a thing my government tells me. Most of them are criminals and in it for themselves.
If they don't want us to use it, it has nothing to do with China spying on us, because honestly, they don't care when China spies on us.
I'm not against Tik Tok, though I don't use it. Frankly I doubt that the Chinese are very interested in me.
I just figure it's good to know what all is in the app before you download it. It's kind of like checking the ingredients list on your cereal box... wheat (seems good), oats (makes sense), butylated hydroxytoluene (hmmm do I really want this?)
I actually use Twitter... to follow sports news. It's pretty good for that. Since Elon took over, the censorship issue (which I do find objectionable) has gotten better.
Facebook is the worst in my opinion, what with how they sold everyone's information to advertisers and the CIA. That's probably why there's a $725 million class-action settlement against them right now. Today is actually the last day to submit a claim... go get your money!
If you were a Facebook user in the United States between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, inclusive, you may be eligible for a cash payment from a Class Action Settlement.

I just sent that link to my daughter, an attorney, whose specialty is business law, and asked her about it. I'm clueless on these things.
As for Facebook, I cleaned off my wall a few years ago and never post anything on it - at all - and block friends from posting on it. I pretty much use Facebook for three health groups, checking up on friends and family (although most of them rarely post anymore), and messenger. Most of my younger family members seem to use Instagram more than Facebook. I have an account there, too, but never post.
Ok, my daughter says it's legit, but to probably not expect more than $10-$15. It would be my luck to get $10, then the accountant charges me $100 extra at tax time to reconcile it or something. smh
Well, I'll throw caution to the wind and add my name. Why not? We only live once!
