If one looks, at their core, at their roots, and at the top the religions Islam and Roman Catholicism have a lot in common and there is a reason behind it.

Both religions have a works oriented theology, a progressive salvation by merit.
Both have a woman as an idol.
Both want a theocracy
Both want to take over the world.
Each has some of the same pagan symbols.
In truth, the origin of Islam is rooted in Catholicism.

We see more at end of the Second Vatican Council with the 1965 declaration 'Nostra Aetate', as it brought to the surface more than just ecumenism or what it called unity. Note carefully what history shows, and also what it doesnt or remains obscure. Vatican II was convened by Pope John XXIII on October 11, 1962, and concluded on December 8, 1965. It was the 21st ecumenical council of the Roman Catholic Church and aimed to address the Church's relationship with the modern world and promote 'Christian unity'.

'Nostra Aetate' was intended to examine the relation of the Church to non-Christian religions. In particular it sought to consider "what men have in common." Or in this case, what Muslims and Christians have in common?

Here's the key passage:

"They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth, who has spoken to men; they take pains to submit wholeheartedly to even His inscrutable decrees, just as Abraham, with whom the faith of Islam takes pleasure in linking itself, submitted to God. Though they do not acknowledge Jesus as God, they revere Him as prophet. They also honor Mary, His virgin Mother; at times they even call on her with devotion. In addition, they await the day of judgment when God will render their deserts to all those who have been raised up from the dead. Finally, they value the moral life and worship God especially through prayer, alms giving and fasting." Nostra aetate

In short, Islam was just like Catholicism...so how can that be. Well Mohammed was taught and studied what came from Roman Catholicism. A rich Catholic widow, who was a faithful follower of Rome, Khadijah helped guide him. She gave her wealth to the church and retired to a convent. But not before Mohammed married Khadija, when he was 25 and she was 40. They had two sons and four daughters, one of them named Fatima.

Now Khadijah had a cousin named Waraquah, who was also a very faithful Roman Catholic and had a critical role as Mohammed's adviser. He had tremendous influence on Mohammed, especially his beliefs to see 'non-believers' or true Christians as the enemy, and Roman Catholics as brothers under their shared father Abraham.

Now we see the origins of what is being used today... "the Abraham Accords, series of agreements to normalize relations between Israel and several states with Muslim-majority populations. The name of the accords was given in reference to the biblical Abraham, whom Jews and Arabs consider as their common ancestor, and as an expression of brotherhood."
