All you see in the news is the bad press from the orphanages, and also the missing indigenous women. I wonder if there is some real Christianity in these reservations that survived all the negative stuff.

For the first time I heard the term "syncretic Christianity". It doesn't sound good, but could be harmless. I guess it depends on how far one goes with incorporating tradition.

Thoughts? Any indigenous people here?

It looks to me like it is still worshiping God and other gods in violation of the first commandment. Christianity is what it is, nothing more, nothing less. And it sounds like syncretic Christianity was a way of avoiding persecution by Catholics, which is also a syncretic religion and not Christianity. The foundational teachings of Christianity are contained within the pages of the NT---nothing added, nothing taken away. However, there are probably individual cases where the cutlural aspects of native Americans are on a par with Christians celebrating Easter and Christmas, even though some of the symbols and customs had their origin in paganism. The pagan aspect does not come into play in their minds or hearts. In the end, only God knows because only God does.
