If we have been birthed in the Spirit, then we should bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.....shouldn’t we?

I believe it takes time for fruit to grow and mature....after all it’s the Holy Spirit who indwells us is the fruit bearer..

My question is why after many years ,of walking in the Spirit, I don’t see the fruit of the Spirit in many so called Christians?

I’m not judging anyone , I’m just trying to understand ....why this is?

Doesn’t God’s word say, you will know them by their fruit.

Admin, I wasn’t sure where to post this topic, apologies if it’s in the wrong section..

Greetings,

In general, we all need Salvation so at some point we may hear the good news message usually followed by an invitation to receive Jesus.

Prayer is used as a guideline to help us repent, ask for forgiveness, invite Jesus into our lives as our Lord and Savior and we make our public declaration before God.

This process provides us with the opportunity to have a born again encounter and this is how a person receives Salvation.

After our born again experience we transition to a personal relationship with Jesus, and our partnership with the Holy Spirit which comes before the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

Unfortunately, what is missing in the body of Christ is a buddy system.

A buddy system is where mature and fruitful Christians are assigned to new believers to help newborn Christians develop their foundation in the word of God and provide them with guidance and support to answer their questions and help them overcome areas in their lives where they may struggle and more importantly to disciple them to the Holy Spirit.

When a new born renews there mind it transforms them and this is what helps them to walk in the Spirit and then develop the fruit of the Spirit in their lives.

The transformation process doesn’t mean we are earning or working for our Salvation.

The transformation process develops our Christlike nature and we become more like Jesus hence the fruit of the Spirit are the characteristics and nature of God.

Renewing our mind, walking in the Spirit and developing the fruit of the Spirit in our lives maintains our obedience and fruitfulness.

Then it is easier to submit and love the Lord our God with all our heart soul mind and strength and then love our neighbors as ourselves.

To summarize believe it or not this is the purpose of Salvation and the transformation process.

Then separate to that is water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Spirit but they don't have to be in this order.

but it is important that a mature believer understands there context and relationship regarding the transformation process.

They are two completely different divisions with two completely different outcomes.

I hope this helps and makes sense.

Blessings

Lee.

I think there are a few possibilities:
1. The people in question are not really believers - they have not actually been born again.
2. They are actually believers, i.e. have been born again, but are not growing as they should be as @Lee indicated above. This could be due to a lack of discipleship or leadership, or a failure on their part to fan the flames of their spiritual growth.
3. They are actually growing but it is not apparent, e.g perhaps they have fought spiritual battles of which you are unaware. None of us know where someone else has come from or what they have been through.

What does by their fruits you shall know them mean?

fruits ye shall know them, By their. A teaching of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount; it suggests that we are able to distinguish between false and genuine prophets by the things they do and say.

This can certainly be the case, but we can be deceived or we might not always be looking for the right fruit.
I offered some suggestions why we might not be seeing someone bear fruit but I think it is not really up to us to say whether a person is a true believer or not.

Thank you for voicing your opinion.

As I voiced mine.🙂

He gave lines of discernment to know how.

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

They will broaden the way in how to come to God the Father by other than the Son; by pointing to the Holy Spirit as if He is another way to come to God the Father by.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

The ecumenical Nicene creed of 381 A.D. has broaden the way in the worship place to include the worship of the Holy Spirit with the Father & the Son as these ecumenical creeds were developed to gather grapes of thorns and figs of thistles.

In these apostate movement of the "Holy Spirit" in thinking it is a revival when it was actually apostasy by placing emphasis on the baptism of Holy Spirit with evidence of tongues like in Welsh Revival in 1904-05 & the Azusa Street Revival in 1906-09 and then the likes of Ernest Angeley's Healing Crusade, slain the spirit, being drunk in the spirit, Toronto's Blessings, Pensacola Outpouring, & holy laughter movement, it did not matter if the believer were Catholic or various heretical Protestants, the phenomenon gathers all since it is not about the gospel of Jesus Christ but the glory of that movement of the "spirit' thus gathering grapes of thorns & figs of thistles

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

We have modern tongue speaker today that errantly believes tongues are for private use and yet would condemn being drunk in the spirit, or slain in the spirit, or holy laughter movement to be not of God, but they ignore His words above because they got that tongue "for private use" by that same route which is receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit by that sign of tongues for why it is not coming with interpretation, but is gibberish nonsense and thus confusion which God is not the author of that either. That which they condemn is by how the others receive the "Holy Spirit" by other signs too.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

In these apostate movement of the spirit are healings and casting out of devils, prophesying as they can receive visions, and all of that.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

So by not heeding His words in how to come to God the Father by the only way of the Son, they open themselves up to seducing spirits & doctrines of devils because the indwelling holy Spirit would always points the bride to keep going to the Bridegroom to avoid the spirits of the antichrist that would take their eyes off of the Bridegroom.

The word antichrist as applied in scriptures means "instead of Christ" as in "instead of the Son" and so while the visitations of these spirits of the antichrist are doing their job of taking saved believers eyes off of Him, the indwelling holy Spirit & scripture never will.

Luke 13:24-30 KJV To avoid that iniquity is to strive ye to enter through that straight gate in these latter days where faith is hard to find because the consequence is being left behind at the pre great tribulation rapture event.

We are certainly to test everything against Scripture and to show discernment. But I think what you have written is very different to what the OP was asking about. There are some very obvious signs of 'bad fruit', but the question was about when there appears to be little or no fruit (good or bad).

But please do not confuse the false movements like the Toronto Blessing with biblical worship of the Holy Spirit. We worship the triune God - Father, Son and Spirit.

@Ritajanice & @civic & @preacher4truth & @Lee

The fruit of the false prophet is how they are ecumenical in nature as gathering grapes of thorns & figs of thistles and this is done by broadening the way in coming to God the father by as that means is how they are deviating from coming to the Son, but to that other & yet broad way.

And for why Jesus said we can tell a false prophet by its fruit by the tree or route that bears the results or outcomes is that very fruit.

In Azusa Street Revival they not only emphasized the baptism with the Holy Ghost with evidence of tongues ( which never comes with interpretation but is just gibberish nonsense for why they assume it is for private use ) they also had being drunk in the spirit and a variation of holy laughter too.
But please do not confuse the false movements like the Toronto Blessing with biblical worship of the Holy Spirit. We worship the triune God - Father, Son and Spirit.
Every line of discernments given by Jesus was addressed within the context of that message.

If you disagree with it, then you should show why by rightly dividing the word of truth as opposing how I had discerned that message to mean.

As it is, a believer online in a Christian forum had testified that he did not believe the Holy Spirit would do dramatic manifestations like He did in the early days of the church, until one calendar Pentecost Day, his church honored the Holy Spirit that day. What had happened next is why you should give pause.

He testified that he felt something like liquid nitrogen seeping through his skull and he began confessing an apology to the Holy Spirit against his will.

So here he is, not testing the spirits and believing that was the Holy Spirit seeping through his skull and making him confess against his will an apology to the "Holy Spirit". If he had remembered verse 4 of 1 John 4:1-4 about how He is greater within us than that which is in the world where the spirit of the antichrist is at, he would have known that which he felt "seeping" into him was not the Holy Spirit but the spirit of the antichrist.

Now I ask you why would God allow that to happen for that strong delusion to occur if it was really okay to honor the Holy Spirit that day?

This is why there are NO scripture teaching the practice of worshipping the Holy Spirit with the Father & the Son and yet there are scripture being specific about how we are to come to God the Father by ( John 14:6 ) and the only way to honor the Father by and that is by the Son ( John 5:22-23 ), the Lord Jesus Christ. Even Paul stressed this mind of Christ to have in worship in obedience during his absence in Philippians 2:5-13

So just because the Holy Spirit is God and the Third Witness within that Triune God, that does not mean we are led by the spirit to worship the Holy Spirit, but to do what He has been sent to do and that is to bear witness of him thru us per John 15:26-27 to glorify the son ( John 16:14 ) and that has to include worship and not just in outward ministry.

If we have been birthed in the Spirit, then we should bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit.....shouldn’t we?

Sure we should. We should also understand that some grow quickly and some grow slowly. More importantly we should be examining ourselves. But all of this begs the question of what "fruit of the Spirit" is, doesn't it?

I believe it takes time for fruit to grow and mature....after all it’s the Holy Spirit who indwells us is the fruit bearer..

I tend to agree but see my answer above. Some people seem to hit the ground running. Others not so much.

My question is why after many years ,of walking in the Spirit, I don’t see the fruit of the Spirit in many so called Christians?

I’m not judging anyone , I’m just trying to understand ....why this is?

Yes you are. You are most definitely exercising judgement. Own it. Now the questions are:

1. Are you looking for the right things in the right way?
2. Are you prepared to walk along side those whom you are concerned with and help them?
3. Since you are an expert on recognizing fruit are you bearing any?
4. Why are you afraid of exercising discernment?

Doesn’t God’s word say, you will know them by their fruit.

Well...the direction of this is toward so called "prophets". Is that what you are concerned with? I mean this conversation can run down many streams can't it?

1. Who are we really talking about?
2. Why are we talking about them?
3. Is this a discipleship issue?
4. What is discipleship?
5. Is the a false prophet thing?
6. Is this a false believer thing?
7. Are you able to tell how the Holy Spirit is working on someone at just a glance?

Personally, unless I see a brother or sister in obvious sin, I tend to leave Christian folk to God. I think that God is working on them the same as He is me. Slowly.

Now if I were an Elder or pastor of a group then I might have different priorities. Even as a "small group" leader. But anywho...stuff too think about.

Yes you are. You are most definitely exercising judgement.

14 Bible Verses aboutBeing A Know It All

Proverbs 12:23 ESV / 26 helpful votes

A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly.

Romans 1:22 ESV / 24 helpful votes

Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Proverbs 3:7 ESV / 24 helpful votes

Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.

Proverbs 14:6 ESV / 20 helpful votes

A scoffer seeks wisdom in vain, but knowledge is easy for a man of understanding.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 ESV / 18 helpful votes

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

This online summary certainly spoke to me.

The pleasures of this life

These carnal pleasures are, no doubt, thorns that will choke a Christian from bearing fruit and even ruin his relationship with God.

But.....if one is a true child of God....no matter the timing.....they will bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit....remember that fight that goes on within us, that starts as soon as we become Born Again.

A Child of God will be made into the image of Jesus....it’s all the work of the Holy Spirit, bringing us to places of understanding and maturing us....then there is the renewing of our minds.etc,etc.

Pride and Arrogance is another barrier to bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit....that was one of my biggest barriers...but again....I worry not, God is in control of my life....he gets his way ..he is an AMAZING God.....can’t you just see him at work in your life every day...,..just my thoughts....muddled no doubt for some that read them...LOL...Ha!

Praise God that you are his child.....💗🙏
