If you change your diet....lose a bunch of weight....then return to your old diet what do you think will happen?

LOL

Any food eaten that does not contain sugar that is eaten in place of a food that does contain sugar will lower blood sugar. Since most processed contain LOTS of sugar (and salt), simply eating the exact same food closest to the source will lower blood sugar. For examples, plain raw pecans (I love pecans) is better than eating raw pecans that are "glazed" with brown sugar or coated in chocolate (btw, cashews are always cooked. Raw cashews are poisonous). Don't forget the meat, and if vegan they remember to diversify proteins sources.

I had a physical last April. My cholesterol and triglycerides were well above 300* and I was diagnosed pre-diabetic. The doctor wanted to put me on multiple meds but acquiesced when I said I'd first like to address the matter through lifestyle changes. I went back for a follow-up in August and all my blood chems were in the healthy range. I ate a modified keto diet (high protein - low carbs). I also lost 22 pounds. I eat salad for lunch and breakfast almost every day, along with a serving of (usually green) vegetables for both meals and I eschew sugar as much as possible and keep my carbs below 25 gms a day.

Weight loss-and-return cycles occur when 1) the weight was lost too quickly and 2) the mind is not changed. As a man thinketh, so he is ;). If we change the way we think, then we change the way we act. The reason people's weight goes back and forth is because they don't maintain new thinking, not just a new diet. For example, having a healthy diet is much different than dieting.

* Triglyceride is serum fat in the blood. Several years ago my triglyceride level was over 700! Cholesterol was nearly 400. At that time, I stopped eating fast food and changed my diet and cut 100 points off my cholesterol in one month! So it's fairly easy to improve all these metrics with some simple "lifestyle changes" and self-control. It's also easy to backslide (as my April physical revealed).

I hear ya.

The problem is in America...the JUNK they add to our food....MSG, high fructose corn syrup, food coloring, sodium this and that, hormones, glyphosate...and the list goes on and on.

Besides a new thinking and a new diet....there is this nutrition "curve" that must be learned to keep away from the poison.

Yep. I don't know how true it is, but I once read the average non-US person eats 5 pounds of sugar in a year and the average US person eats 50! I was thinking about indulging the other day and looked at chocolate syrup. Hersheys has a "Simply 5" version so I read the ingedients list, the first in gredient is can sugar. Compared to the regular Hershey's syrup (which starts with corn syrup) it's ingredients are amazingly few.

But its shelf life is something like five weeks!

I suspect the regular chocolate syrups will last a year (maybe more ). I passed (on both the ice cream and the chocolate). Sometimes all the mind needs is a jolt of reality to maintain its discipline. Shop the outer aisles of the grocery store because the further in you go the more the food is processed.

I find something similar with Heinz Ketchup.
Their typical Ketchup is loaded with High Fructose Corn Syrup...while Heinz also sell a "Simply" style of Ketchup that doesn't have any HFCS.
Problem is when you go out to eat all the restaurants serve the HFCS style.

I also noticed pickles and peppers often contain yellow die where some brands use turmeric for the color.

For salad dressing I use a brand from Walden Farms that doesn't seem to have all the junk in it.

All of which can be purchased in healthier alternatives (or grown in or made from one's own garden ;)). I think my folks let me have a garden just to get me out of their hair, but I've been doing it since I was ten y.o. and love it. Not much help in the winter, though (it was 21 degrees outside when I got up this morning).

Me, too. I don't know if it's available in your locale, but you might check out Boathouse Farms dressings. Less preservatives and much more flavorful. About 50 calories instead of zero but they're not added sugars. I love blue cheese dressing and Walden Farms' is wanting.

"Starch converts to sugar."

The foods that I have recommended are not starchy and have next to no sugar in them.

Try eating them for three days and see what happens. Your sugar will drop to normal without insulin. Unless you eat something you should have. One slice of bread can raise your glucose 20 points.
