Easybelieveism.

The sinner's prayer and altar calls promote easybelieveism.

The church has changed the scriptures and taught people that all they need to do to be saved is ask Jesus into their hearts, accept him as Lord and Savior, and ask God to forgive their sins. And bam! You are saved!

The problem is, that alter calls and accepting Jesus into your heart are not found in scripture. This practice is man-centered and has nothing to do with God's word.

Billy Graham and Bill Sunday amongst many others have been teaching a false gospel and have misled many. After reciting their prayer, they assure the people they are saved and tell them not to base it on feelings.

The issue isn't whether a word or phrase is found in Scripture, but whether it refers to a concept that is taught by the Bible, and I think that what people mean by accepting Jesus into our heart refers to think that are taught in the Bible, such having a relationship with him or believing in him, so it is not misleading people. Likewise, having an altar call where someone comes forward to declare their intention to start following Jesus is not leading anyone astray. On the other hand, it is leading people astray to tell them that they are saved just by believing the right things independent of the way that they choose to live.

It all depends on whether the person is under conviction of SIN by the Holy Spirit, which is the source of Saving FAITH (God's WORD to you). Words repeated by "Rote" to please a councillor, when a person IS NOT under conviction of SIN, accomplish nothing.

I remember being somewhat shocked, when I realized that "Alter workers" at Graham crusades are instructed to go down in waves, as the invitations are spoken to make it easier for lost folks to go forward (since they don't have to do it alone). Most of the folks going forward in a crusade, aren't penitents at all, but alter workers, who council the people who do come forward for salvation. Are some people SAVED that way?? ABSOLUTELY!!!! Do some go away with NOTHING? Absolutely.

Bottom line: IF a person UNDER CONVICTION OF SIN (which is the only time, a true repentance and Salvation can take place) Repents and cries out to God for salvation, IT WILL BE the start of a Born Again relationship with God. "Salvation isn't "Theological", or "Systematic" - it's a personal exchange in FAITH between you and God through the Holy Spirit.

Someone forgot the “and is baptized” part and nothing about grace?

Its easier than easy....

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness
of sins through his name.”
While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit
had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Acts 10:43-46

Those while listening to Peter believed his message and were saved before he could even finish his message.

As we can read... Getting saved is easy.

The hard part is being able to cut a path through all the weeds of religion and lies that wish to take control over our thinking after we are saved. Even telling you you were not saved unless you get saved their way.

We have all been guilty of this at some point.
