YES. Always looking right.
Trump was shot at 6:11 PM

Ephesians 6:11 says

Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

You decide... as for me

View attachment 835 Thank you heavenly Father for your protection
of Donald Trump. May he serve you and do your wishes, as well as we all.

Do you think Trump is genuinely Christian?

He once reported he attended a Presbyterian congregation in Manhattan but when asked the rector of that congregation reported he hadn't seen Mr. Trump there in many years. He did attend Marble Collegiate Church for many years but, again, wasn't seen there at all during his candidacy or his presidency. In fact he did not attend church while POTUS, except on rare occasions. He hired a number of Christians as POTUS (Pence, Kudlow, Spicer, Sanders) but his "spiritual advisor" (his term) was Paula White, a televangelist who preached the "prosperity gospel."

Now I understand NO ONE knows the eternal disposition of another person, so you nor I can speak definitively and answer my question, BUT the answer does go directly to the question asked in the op.

Speculatively speaking, do you think Donald Trump is genuinely Christian?

In fact he did not attend church while POTUS, except on rare occasions.

I'm not so sure that putting up church attendance as an indication of salvation is a good qualifier. Cult churches are famous for their attendance requirements. I ought to know - in the past, I survived 16 years of membership in one of them where 100% attendance at everything was required and expected.

Knowing the target that is put on his back (quite literally, as we now have proof), why would you assume that then-President Trump would have wanted to put a church congregation at risk with his making an appearance during his candidacy and his term in office? Church shootings have been an increasing threat over past years.

But after all, this question of Trump's salvation status is immaterial in this post, since God has made a continual practice over the millennia of using even the most profane and evil among men to advance His purposes. (Can we say "Pharaoh"?)

It is obvious to all but the most obtuse Trump-hater that God had planned to spare President Trump's life this past weekend. No coincidence whatever. But, per this post's theme, I don't believe that chapter and verse numbers for Ephesians 6:11 are connected with the 6:11 time of the assassination attempt on Saturday. Rella already knows (and disagrees) with my position on when God destroyed Satan long ago. Since I believe scripture teaches that Satan has already been destroyed long ago, this verse about putting on the whole armor of God as spiritual defensive resistance against Satan's devices can't really be connected to a physical assassination attempt.

You posted a great alternative to Eph 6:11 but you have to admit , even with your beliefs on Satan, that the timing of that shot and the scripture on Eph 6:11 is masterfully wonderful.

As to church attendance by Trump I agree with 3Rs.

I'm not so sure that putting up church attendance as an indication of salvation is a good qualifier....
Use whatever (scriptural measure) measure you like.

One of the problems I have long had with Trump is his history as a covenant-breaker (but I forgot to mention that in my op-reply).
It is obvious to all but the most obtuse Trump-hater that God had planned to spare President Trump's life this past weekend.
Ad hominem does not help your case. It would be better to say, because God is in charge of everything that happens, we know BOTH the shooting and his survival (as well as Mr. Comperatore's death) were all matters of providence.
No coincidence whatever.
That's a red herring. There is no such thing as coincidence.
But, per this post's theme, I don't believe that chapter and verse numbers for Ephesians 6:11 are connected with the 6:11 time of the assassination attempt on Saturday.
I don't either. Exegetically speaking, unless Trump is a Christian nothing in the entire armor of God passage applies to Trump and it is nonsensical abuse of scripture to apply that text the way some would apply it if Trump's not a (salvific) believer.

I happen to know Pence and Spicer (although I have met the latter only once. I can attest to their devotedness to Jesus as both Lord and Savior, however well or imperfectly they may demonstrate that on any given day. The armor of God text applies to them only when they put it on. That is what is explicitly stipulated by the text. The passage does NOT say God goes around throwing His armor on anyone or everyone, not even those laying claim to the name of His Son.

As to church attendance by Trump I agree with 3Rs.
I did nt ask about Trump's church attendance. I made some factual observations relevant to Hebrews 10:25 and Galatians 1:8.

What I asked you was, "Do you think Trump is genuinely Christian?"

If Trump is not genuinely Christian, then Ephesians 6 does not apply to him. At All. Ephesians 6 was written by a regenerate believer to regenerate believers about regenerate believers. Anyone and everyone lacking that identity doesn't get to lay claim to Ephesians 6:10-17. Furthermore, as I observed in the prior post, Ephesians 6 stipulates the armor be put on by the saint, not something God puts on people. What evidence is there Trump knows the text, obeys the text, and we can therefore apply the text correctly to him?

Don't get mad at me. I'm simply asking very valid and relevant questions.

The question, "Coincidence or God?" can be answered definitively, "God," but applying Ephesians 6:1-17 has yet to be justified. God can and did protect that man, but He can and often does so without Ephesians 6.

But we do know of people that God will save from harm for His purposes.

Trump stood at the convention and gave credit to God's grace for saving him from an untimely death. And then a few more times in various interviews after that.

Yes

Do you believe Trump put on the armor? If so, what evidence (other than his survival) do you have he himself "put on" the armor as stipulated in Ephesians 6?

What evidence do YOU need?

If I were to tell you that visual signs of change in the man in the hours and days following that shooting are enough to tell me that God the Father was in charge was enough for me, you would say but that isn't proof.

But as for me, I believe that our Heavenly Father can divert a bullet on anyone he choses, whether or not that person had "put on the full armor"
so to speak.

If it is in the "game plan" of the Father's workings... it will be what he directs and no man can stop HIM.

The shooter shot at a specific time with his rifle aimed at Trumps head. I do not think it chance that Trump move just enough, or that the wind caused the bullet to veer off course that saved the man his life.... and possibly that of ours also.

@3 Resurrections ... Would you post what you did elsewhere from that reading for July 13. If you dont want to can I.

But you do not know.
Which is exactly what I posted. The salient point being no one knows but a lot of people act like they know when they apply texts like Eph. 6 to Trump.
But we do know of people that God will save from harm for His purposes.
Sure, but that has nothing to do with Ephesians 6:1-17.
Trump stood at the convention and gave credit to God's grace for saving him from an untimely death. And then a few more times in various interviews after that.
many POTUSes have given God for a variety of things, too. Even if Trump were a Christian AND gave credit t God for his survival, it does not mean Trump put on the full armor of God. If Trump did not put on the armor, then God still protected him; God protected him in spite of his not putting on the armor.

Ephesians 6:10-18
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints....

What is the evidence Trump...

  • Took up the whole armor?
  • Fastened the belt of truth?
  • Put on the breastplate of righteousness?
  • Put on the shoes of readiness?
  • Took up the shield of faith?
  • Took the helmet of salvation?
  • Took the sword of the Spirit, the word?
  • Kept alert?
  • Made supplication for all the saints?

Since the attempted assassination Christians have been citing a plethora of Bible verses and claimed they are applicable (without any scriptural reason for doing so). Surely you (and I and 3R) have all had experiences when God protected or saved us in spite of ourselves, not because we consciously and conscientiously put on the armor of God. It's not a particularly big point. It's not a complicated point. It's not a particularly controversial point, either.

Job 36:15
He delivers the afflicted in their affliction and opens their ear in time of oppression.

The poor man has been oppressed by his enemies since before he decided to run for office. God must be opening Trump's ears.

What evidence do YOU need?
No shifting onus, please. Please post WHATEVER evidence you have.

The shooter shot ....
This op is not about the shooter. It's about God protecting Trump (a given) and Trump putting on the armor of God (an implication for which I have yet to see any evidence - despite multiple requests).

Which is exactly what I posted. The salient point being no one knows but a lot of people act like they know when they apply texts like Eph. 6 to Trump.

You do not believe in coincidences. Do you not think it odd that 7-13 he gets shot and then Eph 7-13 is quoted? (Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.)

I call it a sign.
Sure, but that has nothing to do with Ephesians 6:1-17.

You posted a great alternative to Eph 6:11 but you have to admit , even with your beliefs on Satan, that the timing of that shot and the scripture on Eph 6:11 is masterfully wonderful.
The problem with comparing Ephesians 6:11 with the Saturday 6:11 pm assassination attempt is that Satan's threats in that Ephesians 6:11 text were spiritual warfare - specifically a wrestling match which was "not against flesh and blood", but was against spiritual wickedness in high places. The "armor" in that Ephesians 6:11 text is composed of non-physical defenses, such as faith, truth, righteousness, etc., the gospel, and the word of God. And as @Josheb has brought up, this spiritual armor was to be utilized by those who were children of God.

Personally, I believe that Trump at present IS entitled to utilize spiritual armor against the "children of the devil", (even though I believe Satan himself and his devils are no longer present on this earth to exercise a threat against believers). We can know a person by the fruit they are PRESENTLY manifesting, and Trump's public acknowledgements of God are a testament to that, as you have brought up, Rella. Every person prior to their conversion has manifested wickedness in one way or another. Yes, Trump has been a covenant breaker in the past, as @Josheb brought up. But we know that the scriptures are filled with examples of men who have done this and much, much worse, and God has still redeemed them.

Ad hominem does not help your case. It would be better to say, because God is in charge of everything that happens, we know BOTH the shooting and his survival (as well as Mr. Comperatore's death) were all matters of providence.
Of course those were matters of providence. My "ad hominem" is reserved for those who look as such obvious evidences of God's providence, and still cannot acknowledge that God has been the cause of the outcome of those events. "The fool has said in his heart, 'there is no God'." If scripture can call these people a fool for refusing to recognize God at work in this world, then my calling them obtuse is not forbidden.

Since Rella requested it, I am going to add something here to her comment that I also posted on her same post on another forum where we share a membership.

Many of you like me may have a copy of Spurgeon's "Chequebook of the Bank of Faith". This little book is a collection of a single daily Bible verse with an encouraging promise of God for each day of the year, and with a brief commentary of Spurgeon's below it. My own mother gave me a copy of this small book many years ago. Each time that a particular day's verse of promise is especially applicable for the problems of life for that day, I make a notation in the margin. Over the years, these kinds of notations are filling up this little book where I can see God's working in my life and in that of my family and friends.

Here is the verse that Spurgeon "happened" to select for July 13th, the day of the attempted assassination of Trump.

"For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the Lord." (Jeremiah 39:18)

Furthermore, I will add below another verse that Spurgeon's "Chequebook" selected for October 10th.

"I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it" (Revelation 3:8)

This date of October 10th is most meaningful for me and my son particularly. It was the day my son stepped through an open doorway onto a pressure plate under a floor tile in a booby-trapped house in Iraq. His stepping on that floor tile detonated a pipe bomb that had been placed in the wall facing that doorway. My son survived by a miracle, because the pipe bomb had accidentally been placed in the wall upside down, and the shrapnel blasted a massive hole in the concrete floor instead of in my son's body. He lost a toe after maybe a dozen plus surgeries, as a memorial of his close encounter with death and God's preservation of his life.

Our prayer group at church at the time before his deployment to Iraq asked me if I had any prayer request for him in particular. I told them that I wanted my son to experience a situation overseas where he would see a demonstration of God's power and deliverance that could only be explained by God Himself having accomplished that demonstration. I got the answer to that prayer in spades.

Additionally, that pipe bomb had been hard-wired to set off a series of other bombs which had been placed in that house, but fortunately, the wiring short-circuited, and the rest of the bombs failed to go off, thus saving the rest of my son's fellow-soldiers that were with him in the house. Were they all Christians? I have no idea, but that makes no difference in the fact that I know God's hand was in control of every piece of shrapnel flying through the air in that house at that moment in time.

No, I do not.
Do you not think it odd that 7-13 he gets shot and then Eph 7-13 is quoted?
I think it an ungodly misuse of scripture at best and think Christians should be more responsible, more conscientious, more intelligent, and provide a better witness to the world than slap hazard misuse of God's word testifies.
I call it a sign.
I know. And when asked for evidence none is forthcoming. Instead, obfuscation ensues.
I said that.... but what if DT has the armor on...?
You are begging the question (assuming as a given what needs to be proven). What evidence do you have (other than a post hoc argument) do you have the armor was put on?
It's not like his tidy whities [red herring] are showing or we can see.... God protected him.... [an already stated given] what more do you want.... [evidence from you for your claims] Obviously the Father has a plan for him.... [a point that is not in dispute and as such serves as another of many red herrings]
Thank you for your time. Moving on now.

This op is not complicated. The question "Coincidence or God?' is a red herring. The reason it is a red herring is because there is no such thing as coincidence. Coincidence, the remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection does not exist. It's a myth. A Christian might as well ask, "Purple polka-dotted yellow striped spherical cube or God?"

The entire op is built on a logical fallacy!

Second, the question is really asking, "Coincidence or the armor of God?" since the op expressly stipulates Ephesians 6:11 is THE basis for deciding the answer. No other possibilities were given. Logically speaking, this is a false dichotomy. Our choices explaining Trump's survival are not limited to coincidence or the armor of God. God routinely protects and saves people all over the world who never bothered to put on the armor of God and God is not limited in his protection to Ephesians 6:11.

The entire op is built on two logical fallacies!

Exegetically speaking, Ephesians 6's armor of God is applicable only to the saints. If we assume Trump is a sincere believer in the resurrected Son of God then we'd have some basis for thinking the verse relevant BUT ONLY IF IT CAN BE SHOWN TRUMP PUT ON THE ARMOR! It is Trump that must put on that armor, not God. That is what is explicitly stipulated in the text of Ephesians 6. The unstated implication of this op is that Mr. Comperatore was not wearing the armor of God and God's sovereignty, providence, and protection failed for Him. By exalting Trump, Comperatore is insulted. Mr Trump and Mr. Comperatore experienced to direct consequence of God's will, and they did so whether either of them had put on the armor of God or not.

The entire op is built on two logical fallacies and very sloppy use of God's word.

And Christians should be better than this op. When Christians argue fallacy they bear a poor witness to Christ. Since the Spirit of God NEVER teaches God's people fallacious reasoning we implicitly know any and all arguments built on fallacy are works of flesh. The scope of the foolishness of this op is limited to the members and lurkers of this forum but international social media sites like Facebook are rife with this foolishness, the fleshly, fallacious, disobedient, unintentionally-Christ-besmirching dross.

The opportunity to amend it was provided and the fallacies persist. I am, therefore, unwatching the thread and leaving those who think this is a rational use of scripture to discuss among themselves.

We do not need Ephesians 6:11 to prove God protected Trump.

We dont need anything.

IT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS... LEAST OF ALL MINE
