The National Interagency Fire Center statistics show that, as of Aug. 17, 2023, there have been 35,382 fires this year that have burned just over 1.68 million acres. This is significantly ~below~ the 10-year average (2013-2022) of 37,808 fires and the average acreage of 4.48 million acres.
