By the Book

This is where you tell us a little about yourself.

Well, I don’t belong to any specific denomination, and I don’t like putting on labels like calling myself “evangelical” or “Calvinist” or “reformed.” I simply go by Christian. I don’t adhere to any particular statement of faith, but I would consider the 1689 LBCF to be a doctrinally accurate summary of what I believe today.

I am growing in knowledge every day and am worlds apart from where I was even a year ago. I continue to use my Ryrie study bible from early in my walk, as I often go back to my old notes and jot down new ones and mark where I may agree or disagree with others.

The Ryrie study bible! I haven't heard that in quite a few years. That was one of my first Bibles. I still have it put away.

If you don't mind answering, why do you hesitate to use or prefer to avoid those particular terms?

I don’t belong to any specific denomination,

When you say that, do you also mean that you're not currently a member of a local church?

(Note: There is a difference, of course, between attending a church and being an active member in good standing.)

Because of the divisiveness it causes.

I’m actively involved in a Baptistic, nondenominational church, and whether or not I’m in good standing is between myself, God, and whatever I may disclose to my pastor if the need arises. I reject the concept of church membership as the mechanism to determine such things.

Wow. Okay. Definitely informative.
