There was a discussion taking place in a thread about millennialism on this subject. Since there seemed to be an interest in it, I will start a thread on that subject so the other one doesn't get derailed.

Thoughts?

AI has the potential to be really beneficial in many ways. I am thinking particularly of the sciences. It can be used to help in research that vast improvements can be made in a short space of time. But there are many, many dangers and it is frightening to think about. I fear that we are already moving too quickly into this space without due consideration being given to the many problems that can arise and possible are already arising.

That is the problem with a lot of what is going on in the world. Not looking at long range consequences. Or before alternate options are put into place. Political agendas that have no substance in reality, other than to completely wreck the economy, and devastate people and families and communities.

I understand how it works but I grouse at the use of the term.

Too late - DARPA has been exploring AI for decades.

Introducing Amelia, the U.S. Navy AI technical assistant.

Not sure about the "millennial" aspects of AI. I can say with certainty that it's not the boogie "man" that the media is making it out to be.

AI is only as "good" as the training and data given it. It has no interest in anything at all. If it seems to have preferences of any sort that is simply the bias of the programmers or data bleeding through.

What everyone needs to be careful of is AA ( Artificial Awareness ). That's when "it" has the real capability to say "no" or "what's in it for me?"

Indeed.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has been at the forefront of establishing trustworthy AI systems and continues to set standards.

Still, bad guys also exist in this rapidly evolving field and they do not give a hoot about "standards" and ethics.

Here is what DARPA has to say: ------> Definitive Views

So really, AI should stand for Anti-Intelligence rather than Artificial Intelligence. No wisdom….yet capable of deceiving people. Not good.
Sounds a bit like…. Satan?

Well...no. A lot of bright people have put a lot of effort into these constructs. Again the AI does not, in itself, give a whit about anything. It acts as programed.

I tend not to look for Satan behind every bush. Secular folks, indeed humans in general, have enough proclivity too evil all on their own. That being said could Satan influence the programmers of AI? Sure.
