Foot Washing ~ by ReverendRV * April 13

John 13:7 NLT; Jesus replied, "You don't understand now what I am doing, but someday you will."

The Bible often represents the Disciples of Jesus as not understanding everything that he did. This is because they had a set of Presuppositions from which their Mindsets were working; they had already ‘pre’ supposed how things should be. One example is that it was accepted by the World, the Master never did the work of a servant. This is what shocked Peter when Jesus placed himself in a position to wash their feet. Peter must have thought ‘This is the job of the lowest servant whenever someone enters a home with dirty feet! I’ve had my feet washed when I arrived, they don’t need to be cleaned again’. Jesus washed their feet during supper because his Disciples had murmured over wasted ointment which had previously been poured on his head. ~ This is what happened that day…

Jesus rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the Disciples' feet, and to dry them with the towel with which he girded himself. Then He came to Simon Peter, and said, "Lord, are You washing My feet??" Jesus answered him and said, "What I am doing you do not understand, but you will know after this." Peter said to Him, "You will never wash my feet!" Jesus said to him, "If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me." Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!" Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you." For He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, "You are not all clean." ~ Are you cleaner than Peter was?

Sin is like the dust of a path which sticks to our feet and makes us filthy. We have all Lied and it is like the stain of Georgia red clay. When I worked for Brick Masons, I used to get this all over me; I needed more than my feet cleaned. Because of Sin, you need more than your feet washed too! Have you taken the Lords name in Vain, Stolen, or broken any of the Ten Commandments? This is Sin and no one can enter God’s Heaven looking like this! If we don’t seek to be clean we won’t have a part with Jesus! If we are not clean, the bad news is that when we go before God on Judgment Day; Jesus is the Judge. We are not able to wash the Sin away ourselves; even the fires of Hell will never be able to incinerate Sin to ashes! ~ But who wants to stay dirty even now??

The Disciples would go on to learn what Jesus was really teaching them that day; there is a cleansing only he can perform. Jesus spoke about two cleansings; a bathing that cleansed the whole body, and a foot washing that cleaned off fresh dirt. Jesus said Peter was already bathed; this is known as the Washing of Regeneration and Renewing of the Holy Spirit. Regeneration is also called being ‘Born Again’, a renewal wrought by God! Jesus was born of a Virgin and never Sinned; he was the Lamb of God who takes away the Sin of the World. He shed is blood to pay for traitorous Sins which are rightly ours. Trust in Jesus Christ as your risen Lord God and you are a new Creation; clean and pure! When we are spiritually clean we only need to have the ‘soul’ of our foot washed of Sin from then on. ~ Judas learned this the hard way. Jesus said that not all the Disciples were clean; he spoke of the one who would betray him. Judas was a Disciple and Jesus washed the feet of all of them that day; but Judas did not receive the first Spiritual cleansing of the New Birth. Pray that Jesus will wash you with Regeneration and Renew your spirit. Do not go to Hell with a dirty head, dirty hands; but with clean feet like Judas did…

Psalm 51:10 KJV; Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Football ~ by ReverendRV * April 14

John 5:24 KJV; Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

In Latin American Soccer, I can’t understand a word the Announcers say, well except one; “GOAL!!!!!!!”. I’m a Fan of American Football and I used it as an example in a discussion about the Eternal Security of the Saints; that Once we’re Saved we’ll Always be Saved. The Bible has Verses that teach we’re Eternally Secure, and it has Verses that teach we can Lose our Salvation; which is it? People usually decide for one or the other out of an ‘either/or’ approach to the Bible instead of a ‘both/and’ approach; but if the Bible is the Word of God, we must approach the Bible as if both are true. This is why Arminians and Calvinists both believe in the Doctrine of Grace called ‘the Perseverance of the Saints’; we must persevere or else. It’s the only view of Eternal Security which includes the ‘both/and’ approach to understanding the Bible. ~ Football is a good Analogy of our being Once for all Saved and our Always being Saved; check this out…

You’re the Running Back of your Life and the football is your destiny, the Quarterback hands you the ball and you run with it! ~ Have you ever told a Lie? What would you call someone who Lied to your Mother? A Liar, right? Have you ever Lied to your Mother? The Defensive Safety punched the ball lose from your arm; FUMBLE! Now you’re Scrimmaging for the ball. Have you ever Stolen anything? What do you call a person that would Steal money from your Mother? A Thief, right? You know where I’m going with this; have you ever snuck through your Mother’s purse? The ball was at your fingertips but booted away out of reach; your destiny is now in the hands of someone else. These were two of the Ten Commandments, Do we need more? The Game of Life is like playing the greatest Pro Bowl team, you’ll never come from behind. If God Judged you by his Holy standard, would you be innocent or guilty? Would you go to Hell? The problem is that the Game of Life has already been played without us by Adam; everyone is a Loser…

But never fear, the Game of a Lifetime has been replayed! ~ For God so loved the world that he put his only begotten Son Jesus Christ in the lineup, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting Life! Jesus replayed the Game of Life that Adam Lost; but Jesus won! Satan collided with him over and over again, but when he punched the ball, Jesus kept it tightly grasped and at the end of the game scored a Touchdown; “GOAL!!!!!!!”. His victory belongs to him; and his Team. Jesus paid the price for our Sins by shedding his blood on the Cross; and by rising from the Dead! We’re Saved by Grace thru Faith in the Resurrected Savior Jesus Christ, apart from our trying for the extra point. Repent of your Sins, Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord God and you’ve joined his Team; the Church. ~ The analogy from our verse is that we’ve crossed over the field of Death and into the Endzone of Eternal Life! Those who say we can lose our Salvation see us still playing, and we are; but Jesus sees us as Winners even now…

John 6:47 KJV; Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Actually, I would differ with you here .. when we consider sanctification as process in light of Scripture. The way I understand sanctification: scriptures appear to set up the process as a dilemma which provides us with a constant push and pull between our works, (our deeds), and our simple faith in Christ's finished works.

In my own life, the Holy Spirit seems to make sure I am always in this balance between my own working and trusting in Christs work so that I am neither lazy nor a workaholic with little faith..

I think it's a human need, to have this push and pull myself...
When I start a Gospel Tract Thread, I don't intend it to be for Debate. Feel free to write some and Post them. It's good practice for Witnessing...

Forward

Years ago, I started writing Gospel Tracts. One reason I did this, is because I’m not much of a Speaker. In a way, I lack eloquence and am slow of Speech because of my Southern drawl. Writing has a way of helping me, as if another person were speaking for me instead. I liken it to this: in a way, I may not be able to sing; but my writing is like being able to use a musical Instrument to play a beautiful song. All Christians have been given a Spiritual Gift by God, some more than others; but few have been gifted with them all. By the Grace of God, I have the Spiritual Gifts of Discernment and of Teaching; but I’m not blessed with the Spiritual Gift of Preaching. But that’s okay; who am I to complain to God “Why have you made me this way, instead of that way?” ~ Praise God from whom All Blessings flow…

Yet I needed to express myself. I had something good to say, but due to a fear of speaking; writing was the only outlet I had. You will probably notice while reading this book that for the most part, the Gospel Tracts flow in the same manner; but a few of them do not, because they’re some of the earliest ones I wrote. There came a time to edit them, so I pondered whether to rewrite them in my contemporary style. I didn’t want to change them too much; because what I said years ago may be what someone needs to hear today. Over time, I got better and better; practice makes perfect…

Anyone familiar with Evangelism methods should recognize that I am influenced by Ray Comfort’s “The Way of the Master” technique. I would encourage you to visit his website, and check it out for yourself. This method is intended to reach people on the street, where you have just a little bit of time to talk. His method made a big difference in my being able to Witness to the Lost! When you’re Saved, you know the Gospel; but for some reason you may not know what to say to someone else. And Strangers, Lol; aren’t we a little stand-offish? The method simplifies the Gospel, systematizes it; and aims it at the Heart. Usually my Gospel Tracts include three paragraphs; one which is topical or answering a question, another for presenting the Law of Moses, and lastly one which includes the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I keep my Gospel Tracts one page long. They are like that short conversation you could have with anybody; and if you do have a fear of people, everyone can hand out a Gospel Tract…

Eventually I wrote so many Gospel Tracts, I started thinking that if I had enough of them, I could turn them into a year-long Daily Devotional. Since they are written to fit on one side of a sheet of paper, it would be ready-made for this. Some Gospel Tracts are simple, and use Nursery Rhymes to make a point, but others discuss high Theology and Scientific issues; but obviously written on the level of a Sunday School Class. Each will be different; but also be similar. They will be similar in that they include paragraphs on God’s Law and Christ’s Gospel; but each would be different because they deal with answering various questions. But when you read from the Ten Commandments and from the Gospel every day as a Devotion, just think about how the Gospel presentation will start rolling off your tongue! ~ I included a Gospel Tract for every day of the year, and one for Leap Year; which will be included at the end of the Forward…

Here is a little bit of my story. In my twenties I got divorced and moved home. Since I worked for my father-inlaw, I had to find another job; so I went to work for my brother as a Brick Mason’s helper. My brother had recently gotten Saved, so he invited me to Church every week; and of course I wouldn’t go. He never quit asking, and since I worked for him I finally went; thinking I could go once, and tell him I didn’t like it. But guess what? When I went, I found myself nodding yes to everything I heard. From then on, I went to Church every Sunday; day and night. A few weeks after that, between Church services, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord God and Savior for my Sins. I told my brother and sister-inlaw, and they were so excited; even more so than me, Lol. The Church we were going to was a small Mission, and it didn’t last very long; but my Pastor said it was worth the effort since I got Saved…

I am what would be called a Christian ‘Layman’. I spend a lot of time on Christian Forums, and when you do that, you write; and write and write. I’ve developed my writing skills at these places; not only that, but I’ve learned a lot about Christian Theology from them. My favorite Forum is CARM; Christian Apologetics & Research Ministries. They are no substitute for learning from the Bible, Churches and Pastors; but they taught me a lot, and are where I get several ideas for Gospel Tract topics. I drive for a living, so I also listened to at least five sermons each work day; from preachers who are widely acknowledged to be legitimate teachers. Pastors like Erwin Lutzer, Jack Graham, David Jeremiah, Tony Evans, Adrian Rogers; and the List goes on. When it comes to what I teach, I am a Baptist; when people think of what a Christian believes, often Baptist beliefs are what come to their Minds. Long story short; the Gospel Tracts will be typical of what the Church believes. Sure, from time to time you may notice a Denominational difference here and there, but there is only One Gospel of Jesus Christ; which we must all agree upon…

I owe so many people a thank-you, but no more so than the Lord Jesus Christ! There is no greater Love than one Man lay down his Life so that another can live. He is the Lover of my Soul; and he is too Good for me. Though I have treated him like Gomer treated Hosea, he is better to me than that; he paid the price to have me and keep me. As Father Abraham sent his servant to find a bride for his son Isaac, God has sent his Holy Spirit into a desert place to bring me to the Lord. I was Lost but now I am Found, was blind but now can see. I have heard of him by the hearing of the ear, but now I see him. There is coming a day when no heartaches shall come, and all will be Amazing Love. How can it be?? Though I be Spotted and Streaked, these are your sheep; yet the Lord will wash me and make me white as snow. Thank you Lord for all you have done for us, all you are doing; and everything you will do for me. My reward is your reward, and Lord Willing I will be able to crown you with many Crowns. ~ Amen and amen…

Questions about the Bible ~ by ReverendRV * Leap Year Februrary 29

Acts 26:28 ESV;
And Agrippa said to Paul, “In a short time would you persuade me to be a Christian?”

How much time would it take before someone could convince you to become a Christian? Just how many Questions about the Bible do you have? None?? Well, it shouldn’t take long to convince you then. Oh now you’re story changes; you have more in common with King Agrippa than you first thought. I have a saying, “Some people need a little bit of evidence to have great Faith, but some need great evidence to have a little bit of Faith”. For some, I may be able to say enough in a one page Gospel Tract to convince them to become a Christian; but for people like you and Agrippa, it may take more. How many questions about the Bible do you think it would take for me to answer, before you’d become a Christian? Maybe 5? Maybe 20 or 50? If you need 365 answers, one each day of the year; I may be exposing your bias, right?

Are you a good person? There’s a questionnaire you can take to show how good you are; do you want to take it? ~ Have you ever told a Lie? If you’re hesitant to give an answer to the one who has asked you, I can answer for you; just like you can answer for me. What do we call people that tell Lies? A Liar; right? If one Lie makes you second best, how far back in the line do all your Lies put you?? Have you Stolen ‘anything’? What do you call someone who Steals? If Stealing sets you back in that line, how far would you be? Wait a minute; how can one person be at the head of two different lines? There’s only one line, so how far back in line are you now?? These are just two of God’s Ten Commandments, if God judged you by his standard, would you be innocent or guilty? Will you go to Heaven or to Hell? Does this bother you? ~ The other Commandments can’t help but can only send you further and further back in the line…

Your next question about the Bible should now be how to be Forgiven. The Bible tells us how to escape God’s judgment! For God so Loved the world he gave his only unique Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal Life! The Son of God condescended to become a Man, and live a Holy life so that the Righteous requirements of the Ten Commandments would be fulfilled. This allowed Jesus to become the King of Israel in waiting, the Monarch of all who believe. As your Federal Head, he will Pardon all your Sin and give you his good standing in Life. To satisfy the Justice of God his Father, he took the punishment for our Sins by bleeding to death on a Cross. The Bible says that if he stayed in the grave, our Faith is futile. Jesus Christ arose from the dead and was seen by 500 witnesses! We’re Saved by Grace through Faith in the Resurrected Savior Jesus Christ, apart from Meritorious Deeds we could do. Repent of your Sins, Confess Jesus Christ as your Lord God; and join a Bible believing Church. ~ If you still need more persuasion than I can give in this short time, I have hundreds of Gospel Tracts already. If I write one for every day of the year and answered hard questions, do you think that would be enough?

1st Peter 3:15 KJV; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

John 8:44 KJV; Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Some people believe that Satan can procreate with women, and that happened with Eve when she was deceived by the Devil, siring her son Cain. Someone defended this belief by going to our verse above. ~ Biblically Speaking a Christian is like his father; Abraham, the father of the Faith. Jesus told the Pharisees that the devil is the father of their faith; the religion of a Works Righteousness. The Verse even shows that a person who is called a father doesn’t have to be one genetically, Satan didn’t become the father of Lies through Fornication; right? The devil is the father of Lies because he was the first Liar. ~ A good reason not to believe that the devil sired Cain is because your Salvation relies on it. Romans 5 tells us that we belong to two people, either Adam or Jesus Christ; there’s no Satanic category to fit into…

The person I spoke with said the Verse shows why someone is of their father the devil; because we do the Lusts of Satan. He is a Murderer who Hates the truth, speaking in Lies. ~ Have you ever told a Lie? Most people readily say that they have, who hasn’t? Because of the way I’ve stated things, you don’t want to admit you’ve Lied, but you know you have! What do you call those who Lie? You do the thing the Devil is most known for; is he your father?? Have you ever Murdered? Don’t be so quick to say ‘No”. Jesus said that Hatred is Murder within your heart! You ARE of your father the devil, and these are just two of the Ten Commandments; if God judged you by this standard, would you be innocent or guilty? Would you go to Heaven or to Hell? Does this bother you? If the devil is your real father, why tell you to flee from the Wrath to come? Be glad Adam is your father, and Abraham is the father of the faithful…

For God loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. Since God’s Love is for whosoever, then no one can be a result of the devil’s fornication. No Angel is ever called a son of God, no less any Fallen Angel or his progeny. Jesus Christ lived a Sinless life and earned Heaven, and he died on a Cross for those who have Abraham as the father of their Religion, and have Christ as the Head of their Race. His blood pays for our Sins and makes us acceptable to God his Father; who is now our Father too. Christ arose from the grave to set Satan’s captives free; this can’t be done if we’re not captives but are the devil’s legitimate children. We’re Saved by Grace through Faith in the risen Savior Jesus Christ, without a Works righteousness. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord, Repent of your Sins and join a Bible loving Church. ~ Believing that the devil can procreate is bad for the Church. Have you Lied? How can you know that you’re not deceived? The devil may be YOUR father and you’d be none the wiser! No, begin by believing you were of Adam; the son of God…

1 John 2:23 ESV; No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

I think I would amend the end of the 2nd paragraph after the verse quote. "Romans 5 tells us that we belong to two people, either Adam or Jesus Christ; [Romans 5 shows] there’s no Satanic category to fit into…" There are slaves to sin, and there are some who are of the their father the devil, as you said. So there is a Satanic category to fit into, though Romans 5 may not explicitly tell us that those of Adam are also of the devil.
