Thoughts on what this verse is teaching about? Who are the “they”? I was tempted to put this in the A & C area but I am not so sure that would have been the correct place.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 1 John 2:19

Who are the “they”?

Tares, Goats, wolves in sheep clothing, antichrists (those that denied Christ).

• [Mat 13:24-30 NASB95] 24 Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 "But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away. 26 "But when the wheat sprouted and bore grain, then the tares became evident also. 27 "The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' 28 "And he said to them, 'An enemy has done this!' Yes no doubt about those. But I think in context it is referring to something else; Gnosticism I believe. One of the churches first enemies.

But probably, “all of the above.”
