The Ballard Of
“If I Could See The World Through
The Eyes Of A Child”

____________

BUFF SCOTT, JR.
[Columnist & Reformer]
Soothing and beautiful music contains images not found in any other form of human communication. It is a gift that touches the heart and consoles the spirit of the tenderhearted.

In 1957, “If I Could See The World Through The Eyes Of A Child,” was released and recorded. It became a hit among those who believed in the faith and innocence and love of a child. It turned out to be a sort of “rapture” song that lifted the spirits of those influenced by its lyrics and melodious sweetness.

The other evening I was watching one of Lawrence Welk’s old shows. One of his lovely singers did the song. It brought back memories of my family and me as we sat in front of our old TV and mentally absorbed Welk’s weekly celebrity program. Allow me to cite three verses of the song.
If I could see the world through the eyes of a child,
What a wonderful world this would be;
There’d be no trouble and no strife,
Just a big happy life with a bluebird in every tree.

I could see right, no wrong,
I could see good, no bad;
I could see all the good things,

In life I’ve never had.

If I could see the world through the eyes of a child,
Smiling faces would greet me all the while;
Like a lovely work of art,
It would warm my weary heart.

Someday all of us will sail the seas no more. Life's billows will be silenced, the rough tides will cease, the winds will be calmed, and the storms will give way to celestial tranquility. The stillness and radiance and serenity of heaven will replace all of earth’s problems and frustrations.

All of our failures and weaknesses and blemishes will retire forever. Our feet of clay will be transformed into an indestructible foundation whose builder and maker is God, and we will experience a heavenly solidarity and concord that are incomprehensible to the human mind. What a blessed eternity that will be!

Jesus spoke of this charming “home” when He announced to His disciples prior to His ascension, “In my Father’s house are many rooms...I go to prepare a place for you...that where I am you may be also.” [John 14:1-3]. What a blessed promise and commitment! We will some day be where Jesus now is, in the endless comfort of Heaven, where eternity replaces time. All of God’s children since Adam will greet us upon our arrival and we will be delighted to give a “big embrace” to all of those who journeyed on before us!

“And calling to Him a child, He put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn
and become like children you will never enter the [eternal] kingdom of heaven’ ” [Matt. 18:1-4].
